Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data the Barrett Steel mobile app ("the app") collects, how it is used, and your rights. It is provided by Barrett Steel Limited ("Barrett Steel", "we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described here.

The short version

• The app has no account and no sign-in.
• Your details (name, email, phone), chosen depot and alert preferences are stored only on your device.
• We only receive personal data from you in two cases: your device's push token (so we can send you quota alerts) and the details in a quote enquiry you choose to send — whether you start that enquiry from the stock book or the quota tracker, it uses the same form and collects the same details, nothing more.
• We do not use analytics or advertising trackers, and we do not sell your data.
• Location, if you use it, is processed on your device to find your nearest depot and is never sent to us.

What we collect and why

Approximate location (optional)	On your device only — never transmitted to us.	Used once, if you tap "Find nearest", to suggest your closest depot. You can always choose a depot manually instead.

The quota figures shown in the app come from Barrett Steel's published UK and EU quota data and contain no personal data.

Legal bases (UK GDPR / EU GDPR)

• Consent — for sending you push notifications (you turn these on, and can turn them off at any time); and for using your device location.
• Legitimate interests / steps prior to a contract — for handling a quote enquiry you send us and passing it to the relevant depot so they can respond.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers ("processors") purely to operate the app:

• Expo (Expo push service) and Apple Push Notification service / Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — to deliver push notifications to your device.
• Resend — to send quote-enquiry emails to your depot and an acknowledgement to you.
• Render — hosting for our backend server.
• The Barrett Steel depot you select — receives the details of an enquiry you send so it can reply to you.

How long we keep it

• On-device data stays until you delete it (via "Clear my data" in the app) or uninstall the app.
• Push tokens are held while notifications are enabled and removed when you turn them off or the token becomes invalid.
• Quote enquiries are retained only as long as needed to handle the enquiry and for our normal business records, then deleted.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS). We limit access to enquiry data to what is needed to route and respond to it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Deleting your data

You control your data and can remove it at any time:

• On-device data (name, email, phone, chosen depot and preferences): use "Clear my data" in the app's Settings, or uninstall the app — this removes it from your device.
• Your push token: turn notifications off in the app and it is deleted from our server automatically.
• Quote enquiries you have sent us: email apps@barrettsteel.com and we will delete the enquiry records we hold about you.

We action deletion requests within 30 days.

Your rights

Under UK/EU data protection law you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (for example by turning off notifications or clearing your data in the app). You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children

The app is intended for business use and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above shows when it last changed, and material changes will be reflected in the app.
